The national FFA emblem consists of 5 symbols and represents history, goals, and future of the organization. Each element within the emblem has unique significance.

1.At the top is the EAGLE which is our national symbol.  It serves  as a reminder of our FREEDOM and ability to explore new horizons for the  future of agriculture.

2.The outer circle of this emblem is a cross section of the ear of corn. CORN  historically served as the foundation crop of American agriculture. It is also a SYMBOL  OF UNITY,  as corn is grown in every state of the nation.

Meet Billy D. from Cameron WV. He has been a Welder for 11 years and is a member of Pipeliners Local Union798 out of Tulsa, OK.  Billy buys Carhartt work shirts because he likes the style and says the last longer. Although his work takes him all over the country, Billy purchases all his Carhartt clothing at Hammel’s in Pleasant Valley, WV. He says he likes the convenience and supports local business.

Welders have to choose clothing that will hold up and keep them safe, Carhartt brand work clothes does both.

Matt McCombs from Sherrard WV  is a 3rd year student at West Virginia University.

Matt wears Carhartt unlined bib overalls for work and and recently bought a soft shell jacket to wear at school.

Matt and his family have been customers at Hammel’s in Pleasant Valley, WV for over 10 years.

Carhartt has a great reputation for warmth and durability but many people don’t realize how stylish Carhartt has gotten in the last few years. For example the 1889 series of denim, and the soft shell line of jackets.

Matt was asked for any last comments on his interview…he responded… “Let’s Goooooooo Mountaineers!!!!! “

Meet Cliff Stanley from Ashtabula Ohio. As a  field tech. for Clean Harbors Environmental Services he handles hazardous waste and his work clothing gets put to the test. He chooses Carhartt bibs with zippers in the legs for work because they are warm and durable.

Although Cliff is a new customer at Hammel’s he says he would consider buying Carhartt  from here again because the prices are good.

Changing Perspectives

When we are young, we often fail to appreciate the implications of world events and the various images that we see. In the eighth grade, my teacher had the iconic picture of construction workers on the Empire State building eating their lunch. At the time, I simply saw the picture as a group of young people, clad in overalls, enjoy their lunch break.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed how young the people in the picture are, as well as the risk that they were taking in constructing the behemoth of a building. The Empire State building used to seem like just another physical structure, but it really is a marvel of engineering. Now when I see the picture and the way that the workers are casually enjoying their lunch, I think about how they are regular people—like you or me—and were able to construct such an amazing edifice.

Here is Keith Y. from Moundsville West Virginia. Keith has been a construction worker for over 23 years and specializes in building houses. Keith wears Carhartt bib overalls to work in because they “outwear anything else I have ever tried”  and “they have all the tool and utility pockets that I like.” He has both lined and unlined Carhartt bib overalls in his closet along with denim jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts and his favorite active jacket.

Keith is a firm believer in supporting small, local businesses and purchases his Carhartts from Hammel’s in Pleasant Valley, where he has been a customer for 3 years.

Here’s an equipment operator, John Shimek. He has been employed by Clean Harbors Environmental Services for 2 years. John lives in Ashtabula Ohio but his work takes him all over the country. John finds Carhartt work clothing to be “tough and reliable” and has compared them to several other brands. He wears Carhartt brand clothing for work and leisure and some of his must haves are vests and bib overalls. While in the northern panhandle of West Virginia he visited a Carhartt retailer in Pleasant Valley where he was pleased with the service he received. He also commented that “convenience and price” would make him a return customer.

The Secret to Carhartt’s Popularity

No matter where you live in the US, chances are that you are quite familiar with the iconic Carhartt logo.Carhartt clothing, such as the Carhartt bib and jackets, has become a staple of blue-collar workers and avid outdoorsmen. For those unfamiliar with the company, the ubiquitous nature of the clothing may be somewhat of a mystery.

While the basic designs of Carhartt certainly don’t change much, it is not due to a lack of innovation. The company has been in business for well over a century and focuses on the pragmatic qualities of the clothing, not the aesthetics. Since most of their customers are using their clothing for hard work, this focus on the practicality of the wear is commonsense.
