Insulation key

Lined overalls are key to making it though a bitter winter comfortably. Carhartt makes a variety of linings, from blanket, sherpa, arctic to quilted. All are warm but arctic is the warmest. These cannot be worn outdoors and worked in during mild weather for the simple fact that you will become overheated and sweaty.

Dress in layers this winter and shed or add clothes and stay comfortable and dry.

New operations & old fashioned motives

Farming or agriculture practices have evolved over the decades as you well know. Our early settlers plowed the land with oxen and horses and by hand in comparison to the latest high tech. air conditioned, closed cab ( with A/C) , tractor that is a common site out west on large commercial farms. Seeds and propagation practices have become a science as hybrids and new strains are discovered and developed every year.

Now let us think about what has virtually remained unchanged. The desire to be a farmer has not changed and his choice of  Carhartt overalls as his work uniform.

FFA salutes and educates young students about the honorable vocation of farming and Carhartt supports them as well.

Advice from bib girl

October 13, 2010

When it comes to bib overalls, denim bib overalls are probably the style that has been around the longest. Carhartt produced them for railroad workers in the late 1800′s. Over the decades many changes and improvements have been seen, from leg zippers, front zippers, tool pockets, double knees, zipper pouches, softened fabric, color variety and on and on.

Now for the advice!  Allow room for extra clothes under your bibs. Consider a bit of shrinkage during laundering and choose a length that will “stack ” a bit on your boot so that they do not come up short when you sit down.  A good fitting bib overall will be a favorite in your wardrobe. May even become a comfortable habit!

Gotta wear FR clothing? Don’t worry about finding quality and variety. Carhartt Flame-Resistant Clothing comes in several styles and colors and weights, lined and unlined, for any weather condition. Other companies offer more styles also. Bulwark is another top company to trust to keep you not only compliant, but comfortable too.

Flame-Resistant clothing is costly when compared to regular clothing so be sure to buy from a reputable source, with a guarantee and returns policy that suits your needs.

My great great granddaddy had his ways!

Carhartt overalls have been around for over 120 years … they were introduced in my Great,Great Granddaddy’s day! Things were very different then but in many ways, some things never change. Like a grandfathers way of delighting the children with a piece of candy and a story of how life was when he was young. When I think of the modern day technology we enjoy and how it makes what used to be a difficult task now a breeze.

I often wonder what this world will be like if I have the privilege to live into my golden years. I cannot imagine laughing at how outdated or slow todays  technology is when reflecting back in 20 years.

Don’t forget the fries!

Mickey D’s is notorious for their Big Mac… and fries just seem to be a given… I remember a time when all the employees were even required to ask if you would like a hot apple pie too! Here is true story.. I went through the drive through once just for a drink and was asked if I would like a sandwich to go with it!! A straw maybe but not a sandwich.

The power of suggestion truly works, not only in the food industry but the Carhartt clothing line has a great reputation and so often a customer will need bib overalls or a coat and end up with shirts, socks and other items just because they are already in the spending mode.

Bib overalls-Advice from an expert.

I say expert… I should say experienced retailer! Carhartt bib overalls are the number one most requested brand, that is a given. But did you know that they are always improving an already great product?

Kick panels in the legs of several of their bibs and work pants are a great improvement. This cordura panel eliminate the fraying that happens when a longer inseam touches the ground. A second benefit of this panel is the water wickingfactor that happens even if they don’t touch the ground, but if you step into a puddle. Watch for this feature on your next purchase of Carhartt bibs.

Cold rain is worse than snow!

I think most people would agree that a cold soaking rain gets to them faster than any snow fall ever could.  If it is necessary for you to stay dry while doing your job, then you also know that if you work in a rubberized rain suit that you will get soaked from sweating while wearing the wrong gear.

Carhartt, the maker of insulated bibs among other things, now has  waterproof , breathable rain gear. I have the ladies jacket and can confirm the claims that it is a great product.

Dressing in layers.. 101

posted by Hammel @ 8:26 AM

Keeping warm and dry is the trick and here are a few tips to doing both this winter.

Covering all parts of your body is essential to retaining body heat. The head is often forgotten. By wearing an acrylic or wool blended hat, and sock for that matter, you are keeping warm and allowing moisture to evaporate.  Gloves should be insulated and waterproof, breathable is not as important for this area. Now we have to dress in layers. Start with an undergarment that is moisture wicking and blended, then put a fleece  and/ or thermal layer next. Carhartt insulated bibs are a great layering garment.

By dressing in layers it is much easier to add or eliminate garments depending on the weather changes and the amount of body heat that is being generated.

Did you see that?

We all love for our efforts to be acknowledged. Whether it is a child learning to fish or a grown adult  learning a new skill at work that is required of them.  It is a great blessing to have an ” atta boy!” once in awhile.

I recall my little Isaac, all fitted in his Carhartt overalls, learning to walk. He would fall more times trying to  see if I was watching than anything else.  I think there is some wisdom to gain here.

Concentration is a life skill that can be very, very valuable.  A person who can block  distractions and focus  on what  is the the task to accomplish will achieve great things in this life! And once you succeed..then you can look to see who is admiring your talent of Focus! Be ready to amaze and inspire!
