Some things never change and sexual harassment on the job has been around since even before women entered the workforce. Many times on job sites where the work is dirty and hard, some men and women forget where they left their good manners. This is now being seen as a serious matter and well it should. But this problem knows no boundaries… it is everywhere. It doesn’t matter if you make minimum wage or six figures… harassment has always been and always will be a problem.
Rosie wore her denim overalls and did a mans job because the men were sent to fight in the War, and the factory jobs had to be filled.
Awareness is heightened and many companies have disciplinary plans to deal with it.. so times have changed for the better in many respects.
The national FFA emblem consists of five symbols. Each element within the emblem has unique significance.
The cross section of the ear of corn provides the foundation of the emblem, just as corn has historically served as the foundation crop of American agriculture. It is also a symbol of unity, as corn is grown in every state of the nation.
The rising sun signifies progress and holds a promise that tomorrow will bring a new day glowing with opportunity.
The plow signifies labor and tillage of the soil, the backbone of agriculture and the historic foundation of our countries strength.
The eagle is a national symbol which serves as a reminder of our freedom and ability to explore new horizons for the future of agriculture.
The owl, long recognized for its wisdom, symbolizes the knowledge required to be successful in the industry of agriculture
The words “Agricultural Education” and “FFA” are emblazoned in the center to signify the combination of learning and leadership necessary for progressive agriculture.
Carhartt has always recognized and supported the FFA. Carhartt is a top producer of quality unlined and insulated bibs.
Frostbite is frozen water in body tissues. Like burns , frostbite injuries can be ranked in severity, with first-degree frostbite being the mildest. Fourth-degree frostbite is the most severe and may result in loss of the affected body part.
The most common parts of the body to become frostbitten include:
Fingers- Toes- Ears- Nose- Hands- Feet- Lips- Shins- Cheeks- Corneas
Frostbite happens when skin is exposed to freezing temperatures. This can cause the body tissue to freeze. Ice crystals actually form within the frozen body part and blood cannot flow adequately through the frozen tissue. This causes the frozen tissue to be deprived of blood and oxygen. The combination of freezing and oxygen deprivation causes tissue damage or tissue death. Rewarming may also ultimately lead to tissue death.
To help prevent frostbite, dress properly when going outside in cold weather. For example:
* Cover your head, face, hands, and feet adequately.
* Wear layers of clothing. Carhartt insulated bibs are a great way to keep warm!
* Wear materials that provide good insulation and keep moisture away from the skin (wool, polyester, polypropylene).
* Make sure you wear a waterproof outer layer and stay dry.
* Avoid drinking alcohol when you will be in cold weather.
A likely partnership. Carhartt and Farmers!
Founded in 1928, the Future Farmers of America brought together students, teachers and agribusiness to solidify support for agricultural education. Carhartt was founded in 1889 and was well established by 1928 but the 1920′s was filled with challenges for everyone. Carhartt survived and today I would venture to guess that every FFA member knows what Carhartt overalls are!
Bib overalls remain the favorite style of work clothing because of it’s comfort and ease of motion. In the summertime, unlined bibs are nice and cool and durable. In the cold weather insulated bib overalls with different linings will keep you warm and still allow you to be comfortable.
The Cotton Depression of the 1920s and the Great Depression of the 1930s resulted in Carhartt losing all of its locations except its plants in Atlanta, Detroit, and Dallas. Moreover, the firm sold its rights to market in Texas, most of the southern states, and in southern California, Europe, and Canada.
With the assistance of the people of Irvine, Kentucky, a new plant was completed at the beginning of 1932 for just over $35,000. The new facility employed 20 people when it opened. In 1937 Hamilton Carhartt, age 82,along with his wife was killed in an automobile accident; their son Wylie Carhartt assumed control of the corporation.
So a company that is so successful today has suffered some hard knocks. Carhartt is best known for bib overalls.
No matter what your job entails chances are what you are wearing will play a role at the end of the day. Are you in a high traffic situation and staying visible means staying safe? Are you working in rugged or frigid conditions or need Fire retardant garments to stay in compliance… whatever your occupation …”Dressing for Success” can simply mean that at the end of the day..”You clock out … Safe & Sound!” ” Your shift is done.” This can be accomplished by wearing hardworking, long lasting Carhartt Clothing. Carhartt offers FR clothing and plain overalls and everything in between.
Work clothes manufactured to very high standards are an investment… and you are worth it! When you think of what a day can bring, it doesn’t take long to want to “Dress for Safety Successfully” and not regret later that you had the choice.
Layer!! You have heard of it but do you know the benefits of it and how to best prepare for extreme cold or the more frustrating changing conditions. By layering on clothing to stay warm you can shed layers to keep from getting too warm and sweaty.. this lesson will safe you some discomfort to say the least.
Basics are this. Moisture wicking, non cotton layer on feet and core will let the perspiration of body heat, produced by activity, evaporate away. Then add fleece and thermal layers for warmth. Finish with a waterproof breathable outer shell and you are set. For cold dry conditions the outter shell can be a good duck coat to seal out the wind. I also suggest that you get a jacket with a knit cuff on sleeves and wear a hooded pull over sweatshirt that will keep your neck warmer. Finish out with Carhartt bib overalls insulated for winter and unlined bibs over jeans for less severe temperatures. For a healthier happier life…get Outdoors!
Folks are working hard to find alternatives to run cleaner and more efficient lives. Great innovations have changed our thinking and given us hope of a healthier tomorrow.
Bottom line, I feel is that we will never see a day that electric as we know it will be 100% naturally produced. The power plant jobs and lineman jobs will change in some ways but hazzardous jobs like those are always going to be around and the need for Carhartt Flame-Resistant Clothing will never vanish.
Carhartt bib overalls are a timeless tradition.. pretty much the same as when our granparents wore them. And a good set of Carhartt bibs can be passed down.
Farming has been a family tradition forever. Skills and knowledge handed down from generation to generation. One generation teaching the next and all the while, everyone learning how to adapt to the new technology that seems to change how we do everything. I visited a dairy farm a couple of years ago and was amazed at the hi tech system in place there. One of my favorite things to do after the work is done is to listen to the “old timers” talk about “their day” . Oh how time flies.
Horse power! no doubt this was hard work, but in those days, that was how it was done. Today we marvel at the strength and beauty of parade horses such as the Budweiser Clydesdales.
Some other originals are Carhartts, at least back to 1889. Over the decades Carhartt overalls have been recognized as the standard by which others were judged. Not the cheapest but the best you could wear. Tough durable duck material that holds up under all jobs conditions.
