Howdy! Half a dozen cute miniatures…add up to plenty of  job security …if.. you get paid to put on your Carhartt overalls and work the farm.

It’s hard to tell by this photo since they are all small…but these cuties were adorable, especially the third from the left.  A day at  a petting zoo/ farm is allot of fun and you quickly realize that it takes allot of work and money to run this type of operation.

There’s no such thing as a Hobby Horse!

Hobbies are one thing Horses yet another. Every little girl dreams of having a horse to love. They have had the gold fish, the hamster, the cat , the dog, the lizard?, and they will never ask for another pet as long as they live!!!??!!! If they could just have a HORSE!!!

Next question. Will you promise to feed it?, love it?, exercise it?, clean stalls?, ….. Can I have that in Writing???   All is fine and good in the nice weather… but then January rolls around and the snow is drifting… it is 15 degrees out and putting on lined overalls and going to the barn does not sound like fun!…. Sled riding yes….. cleaning stalls :( . now the real test begins. Did we get the promise in writing?  Will I give my kids the horses they want? Do they fully realize how much work it will require?  Stay tuned for all the answers and more…. right here on Work Clothing blog…where everyday has the potential to be dramatic!!

Labor intensive Hobby

So many hobbies can be picked up and put away indefinitely. Motorized toys get parked, sporting equipment, thrown in a trunk, games and puzzles in a cupboard. But choose to have a horse for a pet/ hobby and you had better be committed to just as much work as fun. Small pets leave small messes and horses…..well let’s just say…. put  on your Carhartt bib overalls and rubber boots, cause we have work to do, and if you are lucky you won’t get blisters on your hands.

Why have a horse then? you ask…..   Well it’s the best feeling, and it is hard to explain..but I’ll try. Most of us have had a dog or cat and know how nice it is to pet them and have them respond to the affection. Many of us have ridden a bicycle or dirt bike or quad and know what a rush it is to go, go, go!!!  Now put them both together and then some to describe the feeling of climbing onto the back of this living machine of an animal and command them to go with you. Slow, medium .. or may favorite, gallop fast up to the top of a hill!  Your heart is racing and the horses heart is beating and you are naturally high on the experience! You can talk to them and they listen… oh they are the best listeners and great at keeping your secrets!

A nice  brush down, fresh water  and some sweet feed and all is well!

I’d rather hoe corn then shovel snow!!

Pick a season, pick a tool !  That’s right, every season has work to do and tools to do it and for that matter a style of bib overalls that are just perfect for working in.

When the icicles are dripping you know lined bibs are your favorite and when sweat is dripping off your nose, and you are hoeing corn, some comfy unlined denim bibs are the ticket!  Some ice cold water tastes so good in the heat of the summer… but no matter how hot it gets, this girl never wishes for winter!! Case closed!

This Carhartt bib overall clad, short fella will be grown before we know it!

He is watching the big boys work and play and  learning so much everyday.. even some things we’d rather he not learn!  Who determines the roads he will choose, the gifts he will have and the life he will lead? I do have that answer! Our heavenly Father has plans for this young man! Sit back, watch and enjoy as he learns something new everyday!  I got a big chuckle recently when he learned the hard way WHY we don’t throw the hose down … as the water dripped off his nose.. I held back a huge laugh and explained once again this little lesson.  If only life was as easy to explain!

Decisions, Decisions

The question is not whether you should get a set of Carhartt bibs to work in… the Question is… what Style?? Bibs are such a popular choice among workers who already know the benefits of this garment. If you have never tried out  bib overalls, you don’t know how comfortable they are and for the summer heat, you can’t beat unlined bib overalls for work or play.

The bib overall has a long history and the style has remained virtually unchanged. Many years ago bib overalls were viewed as being worn by the poor. Today however, in my opinion, bib overalls are seen as comfortable, practical, carefree garment and that ..Works for me!

Slow down there… Little Fella! What’s your hurry?

This little Carhartt bib overall clad 1 year old is very busy mastering his walking skills and it won’t be long before his play tools are traded in for the real ones.  Only God knows the plans he has for this young man. I  pray that when his feet are done growing  they will be comfortable in the shoes that our Heavenly Father has assigned him. Some lives are lived trying to be something or someone we were not meant to be.

I have often wondered why we ask our children ” What   do you want to be when you grow up ?” As if what you do IS who you are and  your identity is in your occupation. How sad. I would love to hear , ” I want to be a fulfilled christian, who trusts in the Lord, Always. I work full time at a job I enjoy and all my material needs are more than met.

I pray this growing boy will be a God honoring man living life to the fullest.

Back in “The Day” or Today bib overalls rate!

It does not matter if you are talking about  1910 or 2010 when the question of  “what are the best clothes to work in ?”comes up. Decades ago it was thought that only poor people wore bib overalls and some of the reasons were that they were very  roomy and would fit many sizes,  because they were worn very baggy, and made cheaply.

Today’s bib overalls are sold by waist and inseam sizes and can be purchased in a number of colors and finishes. Carhartt, a work clothing manufacturer, has been producing bib overalls for over 120 years and it is my prediction that the bib overall will be around forever!

To Bib or not To Bib! What a question!

If you have never worked or played in a pair of bib overalls….you are just plain missin’ out! No belt tugging at your waist and no elastic cutting into you… Just freedom of movement and comfort that cannot be denied.

Bib overalls! Bib overalls! I say from experience…. don’t worry if you look like you come from the county!!  because that’s where all the naturally good stuff comes from.!!

Carhartt bib overalls history

When he was just 34 years old Hamilton Carhartt started making  workwear to very high standards. 120 years and 4 generations later the company is the leader and most recognized in the industry. Bib overalls are where Hamilton got his start all those years ago and still today the company is known for this garment.

In 1916 Carhartt proudly established 8 hour work days for his employees and also promoted a female workforce. Carhartt struggled through the Great Depression of the 1930′s , nearly going under.

The bib overall has remained virtually unchanged  in 120 years, but imagine how different the business world is today. I have to wonder how Hamilton would do today if he were just getting started.
