How could it be any better? This is one of the best pictures I have seen in some time. It is usually the puppy or kitten pictures that make you go awwww but this set of newborn calves are precious. This is a lucky young man who is trusted by the mama cow and can share in this moment. Animals have a keen sense of when to trust. It is an old farmer in his overalls calling his special call to his herd who knows these things the best. The relationship is learned and earned and not taught or bought.
Do you like to live life to the fullest… I do. I love to set goals, make plans and then work to achieve them. I personally feel that leisure time is a must. Planning a getaway and looking forward to it are almost half the fun. The getaway serves as a reward or incentive to put your nose to the grindstone and work hard and when it is time to clock out and enjoy the reward, it is very well deserved.
When I am working around the yard and in the barn, Carhartt unlined bib overalls are my pick for work clothing. They are tough and comfortable. In some ways, Carhartt helps in ways that even they aren’t aware of!
Wide open farms in the Midwest are cattle country. The most efficient way to control and guide the herd is on horseback. The horse and master are almost one. They are a team and they know each others moves and skills.
Farming on a large scale like this requires much knowledge among other things such as a good horse and tack to mechanical farm equipment to the right clothing, boots, hats and overalls
It is not a cheap industry to operate in but if managed properly the return is well worth it.
2011 has begun and although the year will bring new technology and innovations to the table, some things will remain virtually unchanged. The men’s denim bib overalls always have been and i am willing to bet, always will be, a steadfast item in a workers wardrobe. I have three pairs. One nice pair for working my shop, one old pair for cutting grass and one pair cut off to shorty bibs for hot weather and fishing. Good ideas never go outta style. Some would say that only down to earth ” real folks” are bib wearers. I would say… Wouldn’t it be a boring world if we were all the same? I am comfortable, don’t try to change me.
In it’s day this tractor was the most modern and sought after model on the market. Isn’t that true of almost everything. Technology and design keeps moving forward and so the learning must never end, from running it to repairing it.
One style that has remained virtually unchanged is the good old overalls and to top that, last years model feels better on than the new ones! So older can mean better in a few instances. The one thing that makes me smile is the appreciation of antiques never seems to die. Collectors always appreciate a well maintained old timer. Life is Good.
My great, great granddaddy was born around the same time as Hamilton Carhartt, the maker of Carhartt bibs. Both of these men grew up in a time of hard work and struggle. Sweat and pride were their survival tools. Coming through the great depression and Wars built endurance and character.
I wish I could sit and have a conversation with both of these men, how interesting that would be.
Any quality contractor knows that every detail matters. Most job situations usually have one boss who is expected to know it all, but if he is a smart boss, he will ask for the opinions of all the workers on staff. By doing this they all feel that they are part of the team and every once in awhile an new and very beneficial idea will surface and “the team” becomes improved.
Detail is Hamilton Carhartts middle name! Manufacturer or the famous Carhartt bibs which was founded in 1889 and remains strong today. I feel sure Hamilton was a good listener.

What looks to be an emergency situation is a standard procedure on this rig. Many people work outdoors and in extreme temperatures. In my little part of the world, thousands of workers go underground everyday to mine coal and new to this area is Marcellus shale drilling for gas.
Production of both of these resources is hard and dirty work and requires well built clothing such as overalls and safety toe boots. Talk to any pipe-liner or coal miner and they will have lots of advice if you are pursuing a job in these fields.
The fall season brings on hunting season, Thanksgiving and harvest time. Our traditions are as rich as the foods we feast on and it rolls right on into the Christmas season. Filled with wonderful traditions as well as tasty meals and beautiful decorations.
This time of year means increased sales for my retail shop as the weather gets colder, the workers need gear… as hunting season comes in the hunters need hunting gear and as people make their gift lists, Carhartt is often a requested item.
