Any driven female will tell you that half the battle, of being a successful woman in a mans world , is dependent upon your stubbornness factor. Skill is important, knowledge is important, education plays a role and work experience helps… but without the self discipline, to hang tough and endure uncomfortable or less than appealing situations, all the great things you have going for you are lost.
Rosie the Riveter was a tough gal. Clad in her denim overalls wielding the man tools and doing the job that needed done. I am sure she took her share of bayer aspirin after her shift.
Is it good to be the boss? Not always, depending on who the company is and what responsibility goes with the hat! Many leadership positions have to be earned from the ground up…one rung at a time. A well rounded leader has done all of the jobs himself at one time or another and he knows first hand, how it’s done. His pay scale may be higher but his responsibilities are a great deal higher also. He may or may not get to clock out with the rest of the crew, especially if there is trouble on a job. Driven leaders never clock out, their minds are on the task pretty much 24/7 and they love the challenge of setting the pace for their crew and getting the best they have to offer. The instill team spirit and area pleasure to work for. Carhartt bib overalls are part of a winning team of work clothes that most know of and trust to perform to high standards.
Now that the holidays are over, I set my sights on spring and the promise of warmer weather. The thoughts of dandelions and crocus sound wonderful to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the seasons, but it doesn’t take too many bone chilling sub-zero days for me to be ready for winter to be over.
As of yet, my denim bib overalls are not warm enough to be worn outdoors and I anxiously await a sunny summer day to dig in my flower garden and hose the side walk chalk off the concrete and start all over again soaking up the rays and enjoying the great outdoors.
Such a wonderful picture I don’t think I can describe it adequately. New babies are a tender heartwarming site, whether it be a farmer in denim overalls or even more exciting a new addition to the family tree. How precious and innocent. Given a few days this set of calves will be running with their tails in the air, romping and playing and learning.

When people think of overalls in today’s context, they likely think of bib overalls. This is the contemporary design that has a bib-like upper portion that attaches over the shoulder.

Founded in 1928, the Future Farmers of America brought together students, teachers and agribusiness to solidify support for agricultural education. Carhartt was founded in 1889 and was well established by 1928 but the 1920′s was filled with challenges for everyone. Carhartt survived and today I would venture to guess that every FFA member knows what Carhartt overalls are!
Bib overalls remain the favorite style of work clothing because of it’s comfort and ease of motion. In the summertime, unlined bibs are nice and cool and durable. In the cold weather insulated bib overalls with different linings will keep you warm and still allow you to be comfortable.
Horse power! no doubt this was hard work, but in those days, that was how it was done. Today we marvel at the strength and beauty of parade horses such as the Budweiser Clydesdales.
Some other originals are Carhartts, at least back to 1889. Over the decades Carhartt overalls have been recognized as the standard by which others were judged. Not the cheapest but the best you could wear. Tough durable duck material that holds up under all jobs conditions.
Farming or agriculture practices have evolved over the decades as you well know. Our early settlers plowed the land with oxen and horses and by hand in comparison to the latest high tech. air conditioned, closed cab ( with A/C) , tractor that is a common site out west on large commercial farms. Seeds and propagation practices have become a science as hybrids and new strains are discovered and developed every year.
Now let us think about what has virtually remained unchanged. The desire to be a farmer has not changed and his choice of Carhartt overalls as his work uniform.
FFA salutes and educates young students about the honorable vocation of farming and Carhartt supports them as well.

As you can well imagine, before it was all said and done, they fell over and laughed even harder!
Carhartt has inseams from 28′ up to 38″ and waist sizes from 28″ to 58″ now that is a range!
Bib girl here with a few tips on do’s and don’ts when choosing a denim bib to wear. Denim overalls from Carhartt are a lighter weight and fit and wash differently from duck. This bib is generally chosen to be worn alone in the summer or gotten bigger to wear over clothing in cooler weather as a coverall.
If being worn with just under clothing on for warmer weather choose your normal inseam and add 2 inches to your waist minimum. if you have a husky middle you need to use a tape measure around you biggest area above the waist about 2 inches. Now take that number and add 2-4 inches. This denim bib will be a favorite and with multiple wash and dry cycles… it will shrink some. Also …don’t be afraid to add a little to the inseam if you haven’t already allowed for that.
